PE
Curriculum Vision
Our PE teaching will create young people with a positive outlook on physical activity. The PE curriculum will enable students to build personal resilience, confidence and discover a sense of personal achievement. Through engagement with a broad range of worthwhile physical activities, students will become physically competent and value the benefits of participating throughout their life. We offer numerous opportunities for learning and to compete outside of the classroom, enabling all to cope with both success and failure in competitive and cooperative activities. We champion all students to strive for their personal best.
Curriculum Intent
Our Key Stage 3 Physical Education curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to enjoy, succeed, and excel in a broad range of physical activities. We strive to develop confident, competent, and resilient learners who understand the value of physical activity for lifelong health and wellbeing.
Through a diverse programme of team and individual sports, dance, athletics, gymnastics, and outdoor adventurous activities, pupils will:
Develop Competence: Build and refine a wide range of skills and techniques, applying them effectively across different sports and physical activities.
Apply Tactical Understanding: Use strategies and decision-making to overcome challenges and opponents in competitive contexts.
Build Character and Collaboration: Demonstrate communication, leadership, and teamwork, fostering trust and respect in all activities.
Analyse and Improve Performance: Evaluate their own and others’ work using appropriate terminology, setting goals to achieve personal bests.
Promote Lifelong Participation: Cultivate motivation and confidence to engage in physical activity beyond the classroom, understanding its long-term health benefits.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure pupils are physically active for sustained periods, engage in competitive sports, and lead healthy, active lives, preparing them for continued participation in sport and physical activity in later life.
At Key Stage 4, our GCSE PE curriculum deepens students’ understanding of the science and sociology of sport while refining their practical performance. We aim to:
Provide a balanced curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application across diverse physical activities.
Explore key topics such as anatomy and physiology, movement analysis, physical training, and socio-cultural influences on participation.
Develop analytical and evaluative skills through data interpretation, performance analysis, and exam-style responses.
Encourage students to reflect on their own performance and progress, promoting self-awareness and goal setting.
Prepare students for further study or careers in sport, health, and fitness by building transferable skills and academic confidence.
Our A-Level PE curriculum offers a rigorous and intellectually stimulating exploration of sport and physical activity. We aim to:
Challenge students with advanced theoretical content including exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, and the role of technology in sport.
Promote critical thinking and independent learning through the analysis of contemporary issues in sport and society.
Support students in developing high-level practical skills as performers or coaches, alongside evaluative coursework.
Equip students with the academic and practical tools needed for higher education and careers in sport science, teaching, coaching, and beyond.
Encourage holistic development by linking physical education to broader themes of wellbeing, ethics, and social change.
