Mathematics
Curriculum Vision
At Langley Park School for Girls, our Mathematics team aims to inspire students to discover the beauty and patterns in Mathematics. Maths is all around us, and our curriculum has been developed to enable students to see the uses of the content in their everyday life as well as broadening their appreciation of more theoretical Mathematics and developing their ability to think logically. We believe students deserve a creative and ambitious Mathematics curriculum that sparks their curiosity and prepares them for real world applications and careers. By focusing on reasoning and problem-solving, we help students build confidence, resilience and independence in their learning. Our goal is to provide a high-quality Mathematics education that fosters a sense of enjoyment and curiosity, making Maths both exciting and meaningful for all of our students.
Curriculum Intent
Our Mathematics curriculum is designed to be engaging and to enable all students to develop a deep, connected understanding of mathematical concepts and the confidence to apply them in a variety of contexts. We aim to nurture fluent, logical, and creative thinkers who can reason effectively, solve problems with determination, and approach challenges with resilience and curiosity. Through carefully sequenced learning, we ensure that key knowledge and skills are built upon securely over time, allowing students to make meaningful links across different areas of Mathematics. Real-world applications and careers are embedded throughout the curriculum to help students appreciate the value and relevance of Mathematics beyond the classroom. Mini whiteboard activities are integrated into lessons to provide ongoing opportunities for assessment, allowing teachers to identify and address errors and misconceptions during lesson delivery, ensuring every learner is supported and challenged appropriately. We also strive to create a learning environment where every student feels a strong sense of belonging, is encouraged to take risks in their learning, and develops the independence needed to succeed both academically and personally — enabling everyone to thrive.
