BTEC Art & Design Exhibition January 2014

This unit of work is one of the five mandatory units that BTEC Art and Design students have to study at the start of their course. The unit is based on understanding how Artists gather resources in order to make their Art work and generate ideas and help to explore and experiment with materials and techniques.

For this unit the students were set to recording their own school environment as it is an important primary resource within easy reach of all students. The students had to record their school environment by taking photographs using DSLR cameras and by making drawings using a variety of materials and techniques.

The students studied the work of artist David Hockney and they especially focused on his series of photographs called the joiners. The students then used their Hockney research and their knowledge of the joiner technique to start playing around with their own photographs and drawings.

They made a series of collages which they then developed into larger scale final pieces of mixed media work which went on display in the LPGS Dalo building on Monday 27th Jan 2014 for the public to see.

A fantastic final display of work from Unit 1 of the BTEC course was well received by the public who really appreciated all the hard work that the young Artists had put in, in order to create a wonderfully vibrant, exciting and engaging display of work. Well done to all those involved!
