James Cousins Dance Company

On Wednesday 2nd May Year 10 GCSE Dance students took part in a workshop with two professional dancers from the James Cousins Dance Company. Students worked tirelessly for three hours perfecting challenging contact work and learning material from the piece "Within her Eyes", by the end of the session they had learnt over two minutes of professional material and had gained many ideas to put into their own pieces.

GCSE Dancer Charlotte W from 10GB tells us more:

We all thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and felt truly inspired working with two first class dancers. We learnt new terminology and how to use this in our theory assessments as well as new lifts and tricks to put into our exam choreography. Many of my class said that their confidence was really boosted throughout the day and that they learnt to acknowledge their own strengths and weakness. We were put into pairs and tested on our ability to trust each other and experiment with challenging and risky lifts. This experience has given us all a new perspective on the different ways dance can express thoughts, emotions and feelings. Having two professional dancers come in to teach us and offer us advice was an amazing experience and we are all very proud of the new skills and accomplishments we achieved on this day. Thank you James Cousins Dance Company for a fantastic workshop.
