Y11 take part in their first MACE debate

On Monday 21st November Chloe Beroud (11KC) and Molly Lambert (11KC) took part in the English Speaking Union MACE debate at Dulwich College.
MACE debate Nov 16With the pressure of the trial exams hovering over them, Molly and Chloe  managed to find time to meet with Ms Ali and Mrs Baxter to rehearse for their first ever MACE debate against the formidable Dulwich College. During lunch breaks and afterschool sessions, they turned a two minute speech on legalising  physician-assisted euthanasia into a seven minute tour de force which crushed their opponents. The girls had never taken part in formal debating before and they impressed not only the other students present, but also the judge who ‘loved the arguments and eloquence’ they demonstrated. Chloe enthusiastically said,  “I would really recommend debating because not only did I learn how to put points across persuasively, but it is also teaching me about so many prevalent issues and allowing me to have really intelligent and relevant discussions with people of all ages.”
The second heat will take place on Wednesday 1st February at Dunraven School; the girls will be proposing that this house should ban doctors from striking. If there are any parents who are involved in the medical profession, then please feel free to come along to Dunraven School at 4.30pm and watch our girls take on this controversial topic.
