The aim was to introduce the students to multi media work together with future educational and career pathways. Josey’s inspiring, diverse work which includes unusual materials, embroidery, stop animation, photography and film allowed students to widen their vision of where their own work could lead. She discussed possible University course with several students after her presentation. She is currently working the designer who she found inspiring as well as for Hand and Lock.  More can be found out about her work on her website Josey Florence Mendez - wixsite.com.

The student feedback was incredibly positive, some examples are included below.’

I was very unsure about whether to do a foundation course or not and found her talk very inspiring and helpful and am now looking into the different courses that I might be able to do.

Just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to meet Josey yesterday and hear about her course and all the amazing opportunities she’s had since! I am hoping to do a foundation diploma next year and then go onto a degree in Fashion Illustration so I found the talk particularly interesting in terms of the fashion aspect and found all her work on display so inspiring.

I was very fascinated by how Josey’s work evolved over her years at uni. I admire the embroidery used on PVC and hope to apply her technique to my future garment. It’s amazing how someone who inspired her she is now co-operating and working with. You made me realise that there is more to fashion and textiles that just designing and pattern cutting.
