Severe Weather Procedures

Langley Park School for Girls will make every effort to stay open in the event of severe weather such as heavy snow. However if we are unable to provide a meaningful education or ensure the safety of students and staff we may have to make the decision to the close the school.

Considerations regarding the decision include:

  • How many staff are able to get into school
  • How many students are able to attend
  • Weather conditions and forecasts based upon information gathered from local met offices, the Environment Agency, local radio and the bus companies
  • Possible road closures and traffic congestion

In the event of the school closing the homepage will be updated by 7.00am.

If weather or travel conditions unexpectedly worsen during the day it may be necessary to close the school earlier than normal. If this is the case a message will be posted on the school website, twitter and an email sent out to parents via our parentmail system. The school will remain open until all students have left the school site. To ensure your son/daughter knows what to do in such an event you may wish to agree on a contingency plan. This may be to go to a friend’s home closer to the school and be collected from there at a convenient time.

If the school is closed, students should continue to work on homework or general revision. Students will find resources to support their learning on Firefly and can access files stored at school via the remote apps system.
